Sreeeeeee-ah Sreeeeeeee-ah Sreeeee-ah
That cry reached straight into my heart. I knew instinctively that it was a hawk. I’ve been hearing this haunting screech over and around my house for a couple of weeks. I don’t live out in the country, or even in the suburbs. I live within the city limits of a metropolitan area, just two miles from the city center. What in the world was this hawk doing over my house?
I can hear her call while I am inside my house, but I can’t see her. I heard the cry a few times when I was outside and looked up, but I never saw the hawk. Until I finally did. She was circling high above my house and calling.
I could physically feel something within my body when I saw the hawk soaring over me, crying her distinctive call—a piercing and haunting sensation, yet uplifting and empowering.
After that immediate physical response passed, my mind wanted to know why she was calling like this, so I looked it up. The first explanation that I found was that hawks circle and cry to define their territory and warn off other predators, letting everyone in the neighborhood know that they have staked their claim.
At first I dismissed the other articles that popped up—the ones about the symbolic meaning of a hawk’s cry. I just wanted to know what the hawk over my house was doing.
But my curiosity was piqued, so I clicked on a comprehensive article about the the symbols that hawks have been given by various cultures: honesty, clear vision, determination, warrior of truth, a warning, guardians, messengers from ancestors or from God, pride, cruelty, freedom, creative spirit, and focus.
Finally, I clicked on two articles from “woo-woo” websites, ones I would never have found on my own as I like to think that I am firmly rooted in science and logic, and not given to accept guidance in crystals, totem animals, and such.
“When you hear a hawk cry, pay attention to the emotions that you feel, particularly around your career aspirations. You may get a sudden revelation regarding who you want to be and what you want, and the necessary next steps you should take.” https://crystalclearintuition.com/hawk-meaning/
“The hawk comes to you indicating that you are now awakening to your soul’s purpose, your reason for being here. It can teach you how to fly high while keeping yourself connected to the ground…Its message for you is to be open to hope and new ideas, to extend the vision of your life.” http://divinesparks.blogspot.com/2008/04/hawk-symbolism.html
Oh my goodness! As I read those words, I felt the same physical sensations that I had when I heard, and then saw the hawk over my house.
She is calling me to to use my intuition and to look at my life from a higher perspective in order to discern my next steps.
It is within myself to find the answers to the questions I keep asking myself—“What’s next? What direction should I take now? Where am I going?” If I employ the wisdom of the hawk—clarity of vision, but with a broad perspective; patience, but with swift decision-making—I just might find the answer.
My hawk continues to circle and call every day. Yes, she’s MY hawk. And that screeeeee will always rip my heart open. If I listen to the hawk within, she will guide me forward to whatever is next.
