After retiring from a thirty-year career as a family medicine physician in Birmingham, Alabama, Renée Brown Harmon, MD, published Surfing the Waves of Alzheimer’s: Principles of Caregiving That Kept Me Upright in 2020, a teaching memoir about her late husband’s time with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She continues to write and speak about dementia, and more recently, about grief and its aftermath.
" I cannot help but think that Harvey was attracted to the qualities he saw in Renée that he knew he needed in his life: Renée's outgoing personality, her laughter, her warm and embracing smile. Harvey knew he needed this no-nonsense, determined, successful woman."
- Rev. Nancy Hastings Hornsby
